Sonia is very physically disabled due to a choking incident at age 14 months. This resulted in significant brain injury and loss of most physical abilities.  In spite of the odds and her limitations, Sonia brings joy to life. Her laughter and tolerance of our limitations is a source of wisdom and inspiration to all who are willing to see beyond her disability.

Working with Sonia

Direct Support Professional/ Caregiver/ (PCA)


Responsibilities will be to provide personal care, therapeutic and recreational activities in the community, daily range of motion and alternative communication. Training is provided. Sonia is a delightful young woman who has CP (spastic quadriparesis - i.e. very physically limited) and lived at our home in Maplewood near Cty C and Hwy 36. She is in need of a fun-loving, energetic and reliable companion. Must like cats and be a non-smoker and drug-free. 


Sonia has two cats, a great sense of humor and loves nature and the arts.  She enjoys being well-groomed, wearing jewelry and most of all getting out in the community.


This is an excellent opportunity for those in health, education, speech/communication, social services or related fields.


Current hour needed:​

  • Weekends:     every-other weekend

    • Saturdays 8am to 4 pm  or 4 to 11pm

    • Sundays 12 pm to 8 pm


 People are hired by Sonia's parents but are officially paid through a fiscal intermediary, MRCI.



  • Patient, Attentive, Kind, Self-Motivated, Advocate, Reliable, Energetic, good sense of humor

Able to:

  • provide client care according to an approved plan of care

  • assist the client with personal care and hygiene

  • provide transportation to events (in client’s van)

  • assist in providing a safe, clean, and tidy environment for client

  • comply with all documentation and record keeping


Wage is roughly 15.5/hr.  


Training is provided. Common sense is a prerequisite.
